Troops of 21 Assam Rifles shot dead a suspected militant at Haipi village located about 4 km south of Kangpokpi police station yesterday at about 7.30 pm.
Sources said one US made carbine was recovered from the deceased.
The slain youth is identified as Lalkhomang alias Mangneo Misao (33) of Kangpokpi bazar.
Family members alleged that Lakhomang was arrested by Assam Rifles from Kangpokpi bazar yesterday at 6 pm.
According to reports submitted by AR to Kangpokpi police, the Assam Rifles troops were fired upon when they signaled a man to stop who was moving in a suspicious manner.
The security personnel also returned fire and in the ensuing gun fight Lalkhomang was killed, the Assam Rifles reportedly told the police.
One US made carbine, one magazine and 13 live rounds were recovered from the slain man.
Lalkhomang was shot at the right arm pit, arm, left arm, chest and back.
Kangpokpi police has registered a case and Executive Magistrate Gouro along with the police 10 have conducted the inquest of the body.
Lalkhomang's father Lampao Misao alleged that his son was killed in Assam Rifles custody.
Requests to record the post mortem on video has been granted by the Manipur Human Rights Commission and authorities concerned were intimated to make arrangement for the same.
The body has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
Dead body recovered: The dead body of a youth which bore multiple bruise marks was recovered at a bridge near Sapermeina at around 6.30 last night.
The victim was later identified as Mangkholen Haokip (18) of Kolpejang village under Sapermeina police station.
Police suspect that he died after being hit by a vehicle.
